2018 Conference Recap

45 Years of Innovation!

We kicked off the conference with Keynote speaker, Chris Bevelo from Revive Health.  Chris shared findings from his new book, Joe Public III: The End of Hospital Marketing, which outlines the new imperatives for hospital and health system marketing, based on hours of interviews with the top marketing in our field.

Over lunch we talked with a panel of regional journalists about how you can authentically connect with members of the media and get your stories covered.

In the afternoon, we heard from Dan Dunlop from Jennings Healthcare Marketing and Cristal Herrera from Renown Health their topic was Implementing a Powerful Thought Leadership Content Marketing Program. Session two featured Jessica Puder from Roper St. Francis Healthcare and Christin Albert with LCMC Health their topic; Using CRM to drive volume through engaging consumer campaigns.

Later that day we heard from Mark Samber from MDS Strategic Digital Marketing and his topic: Crawl before you walk, walk before you run: Why covering the basics is essential for Top SERP performance.  Session 2 featured Andrew Hanelly, Partner and Creative Director at Revmade Health. And he discussed Mapping Marketing to Moments: Using Content and CRM to Convert.

We ended Wednesday night with a fun networking event at Vintage Lounge.

Bright and early Thursday morning many of you enjoyed yoga.  Then we kicked off the morning with breakfast and Ignite sessions. Our Ignite presenters and topics:

  • Galvanizing Employees Behind a New Mission and Vision – Marcey Stone, Atrium Health
  • How we created a consistent culture and communications – Amanda Fowler, OrthoCarolina
  • How a Physician Outreach Team is using data driven plan to promote and grow spine – Joy Hill, Vidant

We followed our Ignite Sessions with a General Session on Website ADA Compliance by Spence Hackney & Chris Barnette with Proclaim Interactive.  After a break we joined Sean Tracey for his General Session on Whole Human Video Storytelling. After Sean, we had lunch and the CHPRMS Annual Business Meeting where we inducted our new Board Members and Officers.

On Thursday afternoon we had six concurrent sessions. One of which was a hands on creative workshop where attendees created their own videos and stories. Our first round of afternoon sessions included an exciting talk by Alex Swire-Clark and his topic Get Inside Your Audience's Head and Heart got our attendees figuring out what personality type they were.  In session 2 we heard from Kelly M. Perritt, Ph.D., FACHE, Brand Communications Manager and Emily Sigmon, MHA, Urgent Care from MUSC. Their topic taught attendees how to talk to patients about Virtual Health.

Later in the afternoon we heard from Sachin Patel, MUSC, Developer TAKLE & Krista Robertson, Manager Digital Innovation, Roper St. Francis Healthcare on How Healthcare is Using App’s for their patients. Session 2 found us learning from Eric Silberman, President, True North Custom on What Healthcare Marketers Can Learn from Amazon.

We ended our day with our Wallie Dinner & Reception and finished the evening at our Disco Dance Party.

On Friday morning, we heard from Schipp Ames from SCHA and Julie Henry from NCHA about the latest Legislative Updates.  They were followed by Ignite Session. Our speakers and topics were:

  • Zero Harm Building a Brand – Eva Foussat SCHA
  • Breaking down an internal communications success story -Top five influencers that led to the internal communications transformation at Vidant Health.  Katie Frick, Vidant Health
  • The Four Digital Pillars of a Strong Practice – Cynthia Newton, Direct of Client Success, Doctor.com

Finally, we ended our day with an engaging Closing Keynote with Dr. Julie Oehlert, Chief Experience Officer, Vidant Health. Her topic Experience IS the Marketing:  Exploring a Strategic Partnership left everyone buzzing and waiting to talk with her as the conference wrapped up.
